Bethesda (Uganda) surgery camp– short-term medical mission
Focusing on short-term medical mission team from Germany and Korea UBF, the surgery camp was held on February 16 to February 21, 2015 for six days at Bethesda Medical Center. This year, the surgical team of general surgeons was pivotal for the preparation of the camp, like setting up the operating room and for training surgical personnel in the Bethesda Medical Center.
Five people from Germany (a general surgeon, a nurse, a radiology technician, a medical student and one volunteer), three people from Korea (a general surgeon, a pediatrician and a dentist) have participated and performed 23 surgeries along with biopsy and treated many patients with medical ultrasound and served 42 dental patients during the camp.
For the first time, we successfully performed not only two hernia surgeries with general anesthesia, but also a hernia, hemorrhoids, and lipoma removal surgery with spinal anesthesia and/or local anesthesia. Through these successful surgeries we could set up a foundation for full-scale surgery and for the plastic surgery camp as well. In addition, we were able to give a great help to Korean missionaries and immigrants who are suffering due to poor diagnostic systems in Uganda through performing diagnosis of ultrasound and biopsy for their breasts and thyroids.
Prayer Topics:
1. May God send more professional surgeons and dentists twice a year at least for us to serve better short-term medical ministry.
2. May God bless Bethesda Medical Center in Uganda to be the reconstructive surgery center through the plastic surgery camp. May God send us many patients who need surgery through the rehabilitation agency, Katalemwa Cheshire Home; we got a MOU contract with and through our missionaries!
3. For the Uganda blindness prevention project which is set to begin this year, we pray that God may send us necessary co-workers who are able to run this business well and achieve the goals we have set up.
