Dr. John Jun's CME report in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Mongolia was one of the unreached countries in the world until M. Agular and Josephine Shin, Matthew and Maria Lim and Paul and Esther Kwon came to pioneer the country in 1991-1992. At that time there were no Mongolian Old Testament Scriptures for the people in the country. Because of that from the beginning of the pioneering work our missionaries began to translate the Bible into Mongolian language for their Bible study with Mongolian sheep. Through these three missionary families God has done great things through the Holy Spirit. God richly blessed their SWS with 150 regular attendees and 500 people have accepted Jesus as their Savior through their last summer conference, though their national population number is 300 million.
Meanwhile, the country has made rapid progress and their GNP has increased up to ten times more than before. On the contrary, people's hearts are gradually going farther and farther from the gospel message. There hundred missionaries in Mongolia who came from Korean churches are both pioneering churches and translating the Bible into Mongolian. Among them 200 laymen missionaries were deported due to preaching the gospel without having missionary visas.
There are 3 UBF chapters in Ulaanbaatar: East Ulaanbaatar, Muis Chapter(G.Gansukh) and Western Ulaanbaatar. Once M. Paul Kwon was deported by the immigration department for having preached gospel as a professor. But he was reinstated after two months deportation because the school authority advocated for him. M. Matthew Lim who became a lawyer in Mongolia and established a joint law firm and who is running the business as a CEO, has been serving the work of God behind-the-scenes after raising a native shepherd as chapter director.
On May 25th we arrived at Ulaanbaatar and served CME for a week. Five missionaries participated in our Bible study in Ephesians lecture 1-2 and Galatians lecture1 and shared testimonies. I gave a Sunday message in English at the Ulaanbaatar 2 UBF. And we also had GBS 3 times based on Ephesians lecture1 with Mongol native shepherds (divided in three group).
On May 30 we also heard graceful testimonies from 5 missionaries. M. Matthew Lim has been sacrificially serving behind-the-scenes in Mongolian ministry as vice director until he became the director after serving 15 years. God heard his prayer that he became a lawyer who can do self supporting well in the mission land. He is willing to actively preach and raise disciples but he said it is not easy to do because of the environment of persecution. He also repented that he was not humbly coworking with other coworkers.
M. Josephine Shin shared her graceful testimony with many tears. At the beginning of the Mongol pioneering work she took care of many sheep as the director's wife. After that her husband returned back to Korea due to his job. During the four years absence of her husband she alone had to go through many difficulties in serving the ministry and raising her children in a foreign land. Currently, she is supporting the discipleship ministry with prayer because of the legal restrictions from the government.
