5 Graduates at Harvard
This was P. Abraham Lincoln’s message to our 5 grads at Harvard on May 24 & 25, 2017
Congratulations!
The other day I saw a billboard that read: “Success is not a destiny, it is a journey.” This definition would mean the scope of ‘success’ is not limited to a onetime event, but one successful event after another, through the ups and downs of life’s journey. Welcome to the journey!
To make you plentiful was God’s divine purpose which necessitated the Word to become human. (John 10:10; 1:1; 14) Indeed, it is within this divine scheme that you have been receiving one blessing after another in your life’s journey. Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO), Joe Biden (former VP), John Kerry (former Secretary of State) were the main commencement speakers this year. Secretary John Kerry encouraged the grads that during his long diplomatic career he had tried hard to build a better world society. In the end, we should apply the art of diplomacy to build a trusting community living in our own community. “Citizens, you can make a difference” in the community. Secretary John Kerry’s encouragement resonated with what we have been doing last 3 years in greater Boston area UBF, to build a loving and trusting community living that would imitate Christ’s love for us by obliterating hate.
I notice though, the divine reality was left out in these otherwise coveted commencement speeches. On the other hand, they have faith in themselves to make a scientific and “tech” oriented social order. However, we believe that the gospel has a good chance to make a ‘difference’ in our own community and world at large. Shalom!
