Christmas Greetings from El Camino UBF
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. “ Isaiah 9:6
Wise men by Sarah Baik
The night seems so dark tonight;
Uncertain shadows haunt our every step, filling
us with doubt—
Was it all for nothing?
Many weeks have passed since we left our city.
When we began, the skies seemed so bright,
So happy and sweet.
Our souls were soaring, leaping within us,
And we felt we could fly into heaven
On the wings of a song, each glorious note
lifting us high above the world.
Now we journey forward,
Stumbling as our vision blurs,
As the burning promise of the star fades.
With terror, we realize that we have gone
astray—
The star is gone, and darkness closes in.
In desperation, we cry out,
“Where is the one who has been born King of
the Jews?”
The people only glance at us uneasily, and one
even lies to our faces.
If only we knew for certain where to go—
Then we would run that way with all our hearts.
Lord, show us the way; we have made so many
mistakes
But please hear us: we want to see!
We blink as silvery gold light streams through the
darkness,
And look up, astonished, overjoyed—the star
gleams above.
Thanks and laughter well up within us
And we leap onto our camels,
Galloping wildly after the star and
Breathlessly singing out of tune with
This rushing symphony of cold air.
And then—purest joy! Our eyes finally see
clearly.
It is there that we will find Him,
There, in that humble house, the one dwarfed
by the surrounding mansions.
There, in that little hut, we will find the only
person worthy of our hearts.
Onward, friends—to the King!
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
May God bless You!
