Korea JBF
August 19, 2012
“And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’(which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’)” - Mark 15:34 -
Thank and praise God who abundantly blessed the 2012 JBF Summer Bible Conference.
This conference was held at Jin-Cheon Youth Center located in Jin-Cheon, Chungbuk Province from August 3 to 5 with the theme “Jesus, Our Answer.” A total of 249 people attendedincluding 2from Germany, 1 from U.S.A., 2 from Nigeria, and 1 from Libya. There were even 8 seniors in high school among them, who are going to take the Korean SAT in 90 days.
The JBF summer conference began with the grand opening ceremony performed by the Great Vision Orchestra led by Joshua Im.
The first main lecture was “What is your name?” (Mark 5:1-20)delivered by Young-Gook Kang (Chongro) who was born in a poor family. He confessed that he lived violently like the demon-possessed man of the Garasenes by beating up even his own father who did not support his family members. The second main lecture was “Jesus, who was forsaken” (Mark 15:1-47) delivered by Seung-Won Kim (Woncheon). His mom used to beat him while binding him in a chair naked and even his teacher beat him until he bled because he was involved in a student demonstration. The third main lecture “Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:1-14) was humorously delivered by Barnaba Ham who confronted the essential problem of human existence when his friend suddenly passed away. Next, there was a special lecture, “Dating among the youth and evangelizing youth” delivered by Spurgeon Lee (Chongro). His conclusion of the message was “Enjoy single life!” and “Glory to those who are preparing 10’s for 20’s” which greatly appealed to the high school students.
There were 15 life testimony speakers who were juniors in high school. We also had a fantastic time sharing our own talents and gifts chapter by chapter.
Overall, to summarize the main points of the conference: First, the headquarters of Korea UBF fully supported us through buying audio equipment and memorial T-shirts. Second, we were reminded of the importance of raising second gens. They are the future of our ministry who will fulfill our prayer topic of sending 100,000 missionaries by 2041. Third, each chapter co-worked well together. Fourth, we all agreed to the need for ongoing teacher education. So, we decided to have a teacher’s retreat for two days and one night during winter vacation.
Thank God for blessing the JBF summer conferencein spite of our lack of preparation. Thank God for David Kim, the director of Korea UBF, and for all the UBF co-workers and overseas missionaries who have been very involved in JBF ministry and supporting us with their prayers and materials.
