Sudan Easter Conference Report
Sudan UBF held their 2012 Easter conference on April 5-6. During the conference, we divided into three groups to study Luke’s gospel chapter 23 and 24. Shepherd P. D. delivered a message from Luke’s gospel chapter 22 and shepherd E. delivered, “The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus” for chapter 23 on Good Friday. I delivered chapter 24, “The Risen Jesus,” at the Easter Sunday worship service. Thirty students, including leaders and an M student, attended the conference. We also raised two new leaders who have been studying the Bible for the last three or four years. We pray that we may continually raise Jesus’ disciples and shepherds for the lost sheep in Khartoum, Sudan every year without fail.
Fighting and rising tension is continuing between the two nations: Sudan, an Arab nation, and South Sudan, an African nation, in spite of the international mediation. The deadline, April 8, for the Southern Sudanese to leave Sudan has already passed. The border has been shut down for both air and land at this time. There are still half a million Southerners in Sudan and many Arab businessmen in South Sudan. However they are still talking to each other. We are seriously praying for peace between the two nations.
There are still many Southern Sudanese students who are studying in Khartoum. It is because the number of universities are low and the universities are poor in South Sudan. The two governments already agreed that the Southern students are allowed to study in Sudan freely. However, they must go back to South Sudan after graduation because it will be very hard to get jobs for them in Sudan. That is why most of our leaders had to move to the South. There are many sheep without shepherds in Khartoum. We are praying that God may send workers to Sudan.
Shepherd P. is going to Juba, the capital of South Sudan, this week. We heard that many sheep are waiting for him for Bible study there. We pray that he finds a house near campus. Malakal UBF held their Easter conference on April 7 with 15 leaders and regular sheep on campus. We will begin to prepare the African regional conference, which will be held on August 3 in Kampala, Uganda.
