2011 Montreal UBF Christmas Service Report, Canada
To Us a Son Is Given
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
On Sunday, December 18th, 2011, we held our Christmas Worship Service at our Bible house. About 72 people (students, Bible teachers, family members and friends) attended along with 16 children who came to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through the message, music, and drama programs, we could learn about who Jesus is and what he means to us. Pastor Luke Hong’s message on Isaiah 9 helped us to learn that Jesus is the great light that has dawned in a dark world. We also learned about Jesus as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, our Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. This means that Jesus is God who understands us the best just as he understood the Samaritan woman. (Jn 4) Jesus is the Mighty God who had the power to heal the sick and who was raised from the dead. Jesus is our Everlasting Father who is the Father of Eternity; the giver of eternal life through Christ. Jesus is the Prince of Peace; he gives us peace with God; peace from our sins; who gives us peace when we let him rule our hearts. All in all, Jesus means everything to us.
The service was full of grace through many music performances from the Montreal UBF choir singing Handel’s “The Glory of the Lord”, to special songs like “God of Grace”, and instrumental performances as well. We prepared this program for over a month so that each of our souls were all touched by God’s spirit working through the musicians and singers.
The drama was gracious as well based upon Jesus, who is our King and Prince of Peace. Our disciples took leadership (Marcel, Somang, and Nick) in writing, and Marcel directing the Christmas play. We could learn how the world offers all kinds of philosophies of life but none can really satisfy the soul. They are expressions of our inner longing to satisfy our soul. We learned about the great mystery that Jesus, who is God, came to be born as a baby to live amongst us. This Jesus gives us the true and everlasting peace, joy and meaning in our lives because he saves us from our sins. We thank God that our actors Nick, Veronique, Maria, Lesedi, Luke Jr, Jack, Ernest, two Davids, Alexei, Danielle, and Pierre who gave up much of their time to honour the birth of Jesus.
May God bless the upcoming New Year with the work of the Holy Spirit in all of our hearts to serve campus students newly with the shepherd heart of Jesus Christ, 1:1 Bible studies, and discipleship training!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
