New Canada Director Inauguration address by Dr. Henry Kim
Key Verse2 Timothy 4:5 “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardships, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”
Dear coworkers in Christ,
My name is Dr. Henry Kim. I am not a medical doctor. They called me Dr. Henry since I have a Ph.D. in mathematics. I would rather be called Missionary Henry because that is my identity in God. Being a mathematics student, I like things to be concise and straightforward. I have never been eloquent, since in mathematics, it is more important to be precise than to be eloquent. As a result, I may appear to be direct or impolite , and I am lacking in political skills.
But one thing I do know is that our Lord Jesus saved us from our sins and gave us the task of preaching the gospel to college and university students. There are many ways of preaching the gospel, but we have a spiritual heritage God bestowed upon us through his servants, Dr. Samuel Lee and Sarah Barry. Our ministry is characterized by one to one Bible study, testimony writing and discipleship. This is our identity as a Christian organization. We should always follow these principles because we believe that we are born again through the living and enduring word of God (1 Peter 1:23), and that the word of God is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:16-17).
Missionary Luke Hong once mentioned that Canada UBF is 10 years behind USA UBF in terms of ministry. During the last 6 months, the average Sunday worship service attendance in Canada UBF was 300. I pray that we may increase it to 500 in the next 4 years. Moreover, we should increase our 1 to 1 Bible studies to 1000 per week in the next 4 years.
Many chapter directors have been working in several committees and I am going to continue to work with them in committees. Missionary Paul Chang has been working in the staff education committee and Missionary Paul Lee in the Bible materials committee. Missionaries Samuel G. Lee and Joshua Lee have been working in the public relations committee to register UBF as a church organization with the Canadian government. I need their support and help more than ever.
Missionary Luke Hong served as a Canadian director for the last 20 years. Let’s thank God for his faithful service. But his work is not over. He will continue to be active in serving the needs of Canadian ministries. For example, a “Syzygus” committee will be created and Missionary Luke Hong will chair the committee. Syzygus was a loyal yokefellow in Philippians 4:3 who helped two powerful women of God, Euodia and Syntyche work out their differences.
I thank Dr. John Jun and Dr. Abraham Kim for their prayers and support for Canadian ministry. May God bless Canada to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. May God be honored and glorified through our ministry.
