GOD OF THE LIVING

Passage: Mark 12:13~27

Key verse: 27

1. "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's" (13-17)

The Pharisees and the Herodians wanted to trap Jesus. They flattered Jesus and asked, "Is it lawful to pay tax to Caesar or not." If Jesus said, "Yes," the Jews would be angry. If he said "No," Caesar would arrest him. Jesus knew their hypocrisy and answered, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." The believers must pay tax and carry out all the duties to the rightful government they belong to. But more than that all human beings created in God's image must first worship God and serve him only.

2. "I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" (18-27)

The Sadducees came to ridicule the resurrection with a bizarre question: 'seven brothers married one woman and they all died one by one. Then in the resurrection, whose wife will she be?' Jesus pointed out their ignorance of the Bible and the power of God: for there is no need of marriage in the kingdom of God. God has the power to raise the dead. In the living God all are alive too.

Prayer: Lord, you are the living God and we will all be alive in your kingdom. While living on earth let us live as your people, worshiping God and paying taxes.

One Word: Give to God what is God's
