JESUS IS THE PIONEER OF OUR SALVATION, Ron Ward
JESUS TASTED DEATH FOR ME
Passage: Hebrews 2:5~13
Key verse: 9
Jesus Made Fully Human
5 It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6 But there is a place where someone(A) has testified:
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
a son of man that you care for him?(B)
7 You made them a little[a] lower than the angels;
you crowned them with glory and honor
8 and put everything under their feet.”[b][c](C)
In putting everything under them,[d] God left nothing that is not subject to them.[e] Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.[f] 9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor(D) because he suffered death,(E) so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.(F)
10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists,(G) should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.(H) 11 Both the one who makes people holy(I) and those who are made holy(J) are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.[g](K) 12 He says,
“I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises.”[h](L)
13 And again,
And again he says,

1. Jesus, the author of our salvation (5-9)
Psalm 8 praises God who created man in his own image to rule over all the created world. Mankind, however, does not rule; he rebelled against God and became a slave of sin. So God sent his Son to fulfill the prophecy of this psalm. He sent him into the world as a man, making him a little lower than the angels. Jesus suffered death so that, by God's grace, he might taste death for everyone. Then God raised him from death and crowned him with glory and honor. Thus he defeated sin and death and put everything under his feet.
2. Jesus brings many sons to glory (10-13)
God sent his Son to be our Savior. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, was obedient to death on the cross. He was made perfect through suffering and became the author of our salvation (Heb 5:8,9). Jesus did not come as a superior being; he came as a human being like us. He called himself our brother. By his death and resurrection, he makes us holy and brings us to God and to glory.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for coming as my brother to suffer and die for my sins.
One Word: Jesus is my Savior and King
