1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together(A) in unity!(B)
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,(C) running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. 3 It is as if the dew(D) of Hermon(E) were falling on Mount Zion.(F) For there the Lord bestows his blessing,(G) even life forevermore.(H)
First, like precious anointing oil (1-2). It is hard for brothers to live together in unity. Jesus prayed that his disciples might be one (Jn 17:11b,21). Christians cannot avoid community. We are commanded to love God and to love one another. When we obey, God pours out a great blessing on us. His blessing is like the anointing oil poured on Aaron the high priest. God's anointing brings peace and power in prayer. It equips his church for the priestly work of bringing the world to God through the preaching of the gospel (Ro 15:16). Second, like the dew of Mount Hermon (3). Mount Hermon was the tallest mountain around. The dew that fell on its heights morning by morning was abundant and refreshing. It represents the outpouring of God's Spirit and his blessing of life forevermore. Such dew falls on Mount Zion and the people of God when they worship him with one heart and one mind (Ac 1:14).
