MY COVENANT WILL NEVER FAIL

Passage: Psalm 89:19~52

Key verse: 89:28

First, I will establish his line forever (19-37). God chose young David as his servant and anointed him. He sustained him with his hand, protecting him and giving him victory over his enemies. This was based on his words of promise spoken to David, and written in the Bible. God's love for and covenant with David were the basis of confidence in God's love for all his people, in every generation. We too have confidence in God's love through this covenant, now fulfilled and assured through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Second, 'How long, LORD?' (38-52) At that time, God had rejected the anointed one and renounced the covenant. Such events happened from time to time in Israel's history. Instead of bitter despair, the Psalmist leads us to cry out for mercy from God, confident in time God would cease his wrath and restore his anointed. He had this confidence by faith in God's covenant. Although standing on his promise will invite mocking, we too may remember his love and faithfulness.

Prayer: Father, thank you for your covenant with me in the gospel. Have mercy on me to live by it.

One Word: God's covenant is a sure foundation
