1. Seated at God's right hand (1-3)
Jesus quoted this psalm (Mk 12:36) to teach the Pharisees that the Christ was not just David's son--he is David's Lord. The Lord God Almighty promised the Christ victory over his enemies--including the last enemy, death (1Co 15:24-28). He is the King who defeats Satan's power in our lives when we welcome him into our hearts. He will come again in power and glory to rule, and God's kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven.
2. You are a priest forever (4-7)
Abraham offered tithes to Melchizedek, the mysterious priest of God Most High, when he came to give Abraham spiritual counsel after the battle of the kings (Ge 14). Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek (Heb 5:6). He went to heaven to be our intercessor before God's throne. We may draw near to God only through our high priest, Jesus. Someday Jesus will come again as the righteous judge of all men and nations.
Prayer: Lord, come and rule my heart. Defeat your enemies within and without.
One Word: Christ is Lord
