JESUS HEALS A CRIPPLED WOMAN ON THE SABBATH

Passage: Luke 13:10~17

Key verse: 16

1. "Woman, you are set free" (10-13)

Jesus had been criticized already for healing a man with a shriveled hand on the Sabbath (6:6-10). As Jesus taught one Sabbath, a woman crippled for 18 years was there. She was bent over. Jesus called her forward and said, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." He put his hands on her, and she straightened up, praising God. Jesus has the power and love to set us free from our infirmities.

2. Jesus rebukes their hypocrisy (14-17)

The synagogue ruler was indignant that Jesus healed on the Sabbath. So he said, "Come for healing on the other six work days, not the Sabbath." Jesus rebuked this mindset as hypocrisy, saying they would untie their ox or donkey to give it water on the Sabbath. Then shouldn't this suffering woman, a daughter of Abraham, be set free on the Sabbath from her 18 long years of bondage? To Jesus, she was precious and valuable, so he didn't wait another day heal her.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your healing grace and freedom. Forgive my cold heart and hypocrisy. Help me to assist your ministry of healing and freedom.

One Word: Jesus sets us free from our infirmities
