THE RIGHTEOUS MAN
Passage: Proverbs 20:1~17
Key verse: 7
2 A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion;(E)
those who anger him forfeit their lives.(F)
5 The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,(K)
but one who has insight draws them out.
6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?(L)
10 Differing weights and differing measures—
the Lord detests them both.(S)
11 Even small children are known by their actions,
so is their conduct really pure(T) and upright?
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—
the Lord has made them both.(U)
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;(V)
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
14 “It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer—
then goes off and boasts about the purchase.
15 Gold there is, and rubies in abundance,
but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.

1. The righteous leads a blameless life (1-7)
People want to be faithful. But only God's unfailing love can make one faithful. As a new creation he should avoid alcohol that leads men astray and avoid strife and quarrelling. He is not lazy; he plows in season and find crops at harvest time. He understands the hearts of others. In the unfailing love of God, he can live a blameless life. God blesses his children. Blessed is he whose sins are forgiven.
2. God's eyes winnow out all evil (8-17)
The righteous acknowledge that no one is pure before God, not even a child. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Ro 3:23). God made ears and eyes. He sees differing weights and dishonest hearts. God rewards the lazy with growing poverty. He fills the mouth of one who enjoys stolen bread with full of gravel.
Prayer: Lord, let me acknowledge you in my life. Let me lead a blameless life out of fear of God.
One Word: God's unfailing love!
