JESUS, A PRIEST LIKE MELCHIZEDEK

Passage: Hebrews 7:1~28

Key verse: 25

1. The order of Melchizedek (1-10)

The mysterious character of Melchizedek in Genesis 14 was a foreshadowing of Jesus. There is no description of his origin, yet Abraham honored him with a tithe. This indicates that Melchizedek had a greater priesthood than the Levitical priesthood that would arise from Abraham's descendants. It shows that God had a plan to change the Old Testament priesthood to a better, eternal one.

2. Jesus' eternal priesthood (11-28)

The priests of the Levitical priesthood were all sinners who had to die and be replaced and keep offering the same sacrifices again and again. This shows that that priesthood could not truly save. But Jesus became a priest in the order of Melchizedek by giving his sinless life once for all as a sin offering. By the power of his indestructible life, he rose, and now Jesus always lives to intercede for us. Jesus is a priest who truly meets our need, saving us completely.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus my high priest who meets all my needs.

One Word: He always lives to intercede for me.
