JESUS TEACHES AT THE FESTIVAL

Passage: John 7:14~36

Key verse: 17

1. Jesus begins to teach (14-24)

Jesus responded to the confusion in Jerusalem by teaching the word of God in the temple. His teaching was powerful and although the Jews were amazed by it, they drew the wrong conclusion about its source. They should have recognized that Jesus' teaching came from God himself. Jesus corrected them and pushed them even further. Why were they seeking to kill the only innocent person who ever lived? Jesus alone lived in complete obedience to the law of God. So, who were the guilty ones? Who really deserved to die? Jesus went further still, showing that their condemnation of his healing on the Sabbath was unfounded. By revealing the truth, Jesus gave them an opportunity to repent.

2. Where was Jesus going? (25-36)

At this point, the crowd really became divided. Some tried to seize Jesus while others believed in him. Jesus' time had not yet come, but it was coming soon. Jesus said, "'You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.'" Jesus would leave the world and go back to the Father. Only those who believe in him can follow him, find him, and be with him. This is impossible for those who don't believe.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to repent and accept the truth.

One Word: Jesus teaches the word of God
