THE LORD IS THE TRUE GOD

Passage: Jeremiah 10:1~25

Key verse: 10a

1. No one is like you, Lord (1-16)

Jeremiah contrasts idols with the living true God. Idols are manmade, like a scarecrow; they cannot speak, cannot walk, and can do neither harm nor good. The Lord is great; his name is mighty in power. There is no one like the Lord, King of the nations. The Lord is the true God, the living God, the eternal King. Who should not fear him? The nations cannot endure his wrath. God made the earth by his power, wisdom and understanding. Idols perish, but the Lord is the Maker of all things.

2. Jeremiah's prayer (17-25)

Destruction and exile of Judah were imminent. Jeremiah prayed for God's discipline, but only in due measure, or he would be reduced to nothing. He prayed God's wrath would be poured out of the nations that did not acknowledge God. It was a prayer for justice.

Prayer: There is no one like you, Lord-great, mighty in power, the true and living God, our eternal King, Maker of all things.

One Word: Worship the true and living God
