THEY HAVE BROKEN THE COVENANT

Passage: Jeremiah 11:1~17

Key verse: 4b

1. A covenant offer (1-8)

Through Jeremiah, God offered the covenant terms again to Judah: if they obeyed him and did all he commanded, they would be his people and he would be their God, and God would give them the Promised land. God's offer was simple: obey me and be blessed. But they chose to follow their evil hearts instead. So curses would follow.

2. They returned to their ancestors' sins (9-17)

Both Israel and Judah conspired to reject God's words and return to the sins of their ancestors. When disaster struck, they would cry out to their false gods, and not be helped at all. God told Jeremiah not to pray for them, for God would not listen. Worshiping idols would bring disaster on them.

Prayer: Faithful, covenant-keeping God, incline our hearts to live as your faithful, covenant people, in the new covenant in Jesus Christ.

One Word: Bound in a covenant to the Lord
