PRAYERS FOR HELP WITH REPENTANCE

Passage: Jeremiah 14:1~22

Key verse: 20

1. God is looking for sincere repentance (1-9)

A drought descended upon Judah. They prayed for rain. Their prayers seemed so sincere, but God rejected their pleas because their hearts were not right. They were looking to be rescued from their difficult situation without turning their hearts back to God in humble repentance.

2. A prayer with the right heart (10-22)

God told Jeremiah not to pray for his people. The whole society, from king, officials, priests and prophets were all corrupt. Jeremiah did not understand God's plan. He saw the suffering and heard the cries of his people. He prayed anyway. He never lost hope in God. He confessed and repented of the nation's sin. He pled with God based on the glory of God's name and the covenant God had made with the people. His prayer was sincere, for it was filled with humility.

Prayer: Lord, how often do I pray just to get rescued with no intention of changing? Help me to pray with humility and a repentant heart.

One Word: Pray with every intent to change
