DAVID SPARES SAUL'S LIFE AGAIN

Passage: 1Samuel 26:1~25

Key verse: 24

1. David's second chance to kill Saul (1-12)

Saul continued to chase down David. David crept into Saul's camp at night unnoticed, for the LORD had put Saul's men to sleep. It was David's second chance to kill Saul (24:10). Abishai offered to kill David's enemy. But David would not strike Saul, for he respected him as "the LORD's anointed." He would leave Saul's life in God's hands (10). He only took Saul's spear and water jug to show his mercy.

2. "May the LORD value my life" (13-25)

David humiliated commander Abner as a bad guard for the king. David appealed to King Saul on the basis of righteousness, justice and mercy. David wanted to be near the LORD's inheritance and presence. David knew that the LORD rewards faithfulness. As David spared Saul's life, he prayed that the LORD would value his life and deliver him from all trouble. Saul knew that he had acted wrongly, like a fool. He also knew that David would do great things and surely triumph.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your righteousness, justice, mercy, presence and inheritance, all found in and through Jesus Christ our Lord.

One Word: Valued and delivered by the LORD
