WHY BRING DISASTER ON YOURSELVES?

Passage: Jeremiah 44:1~45:5

Key verse: 44:7

1. The people were determined to sin (44:1-30)

God pled with his people to turn from their wicked ways. Not only had they fled into Egypt to escape the Babylonians, but they were adopting their idol worship by burning incense, making cakes and pouring drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven. They would not stop. God told them clearly what would happen to them if they did not repent. They would perish. God reasoned with them asking, "Why bring such great disaster on yourselves?" (7)

2. God will help us to stand in suffering (45:1-5)

Ministering to a stubborn people took a heavy toll on Baruch. He was in such agony of heart. God reminded him that God is sovereign and that at this time he should continue to serve God instead of seeking great things. He also assured him that his life would be spared. God was with his servants.

Prayer: Lord, the power of sin drives me to make wrong decisions. Thank you for guiding me in the truth.

One Word: God helps us to make the right choice
