PRIDE AND ARROGANCE WILL BE CHECKED

Passage: Jeremiah 48:1~47

Key verse: 10

1. God opposes a proud nation (1-35)

Moab was full of pride. She accepted praise from other nations. She trusted in her deeds and riches. She gloried in her valiant warriors. But over the centuries, they led the Israelites into idolatry. They assisted Babylon in their raids into Judah. God could not bear their pride and he would send the Babylonians to shatter them until all of their strength was gone. The Babylonians would be thorough in their defeat of Moab (10).

2. God laments for Moab (36-47)

Even though judgment was poured out on Moab, God did not enjoy what needed to happen. He lamented over their destruction (36). God cared about them. Though they were destroyed and taken into exile, God would restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come. God takes no pleasure in peoples' suffering and judgment. He wants all people to humbly come to him and receive salvation.

Prayer: Lord, save me from false pride and help me to be humble and thankful and obey your words.

One Word: Pride invites God's discipline
