SOMEONE TO STAND IN THE GAP

Passage: Ezekiel 22:1~31

Key verse: 30

1. Confront sin (1-16)

God called Jerusalem a city of bloodshed and detestable practices, filled with murder and idolatry. So God would make them an object of scorn and mockery by people near and far. They dishonored their parents, oppressed foreigners, orphans and widows, despised holy things, desecrated Sabbaths, slandered, committed lewd acts and sexual immoralities, accepted bribes, and exploited the poor. They forgot the Lord. So, God would disperse them among the nations and put an end to their uncleanness (15). Then they would know he is the Lord.

2. I will pour out my wrath (17-31)

God's people were like useless dross that needed to be melted in a furnace. So God would melt them in his wrath. God again pointed out sins of the princes (25), priests (26), officials (27), prophets (28), and people (29). They were sin-sick from top to bottom. God looked for someone to build up the wall and stand in the gap, so he wouldn't have to destroy the city. But there was no one. So God's wrath was coming on them.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you stood in the gap for us. May we stand in the gap for others as we repent and pray.

One Word: Christ stood in the gap for us
