A LAMENT FOR EGYPT

Passage: Ezekiel 30:1~26

Key verse: 26

1. Punishment for Egypt (1-19)

Ezekiel was to prophesy a lament against Egypt and her allies (5-6). A day of clouds, doom, desolation and ruin was coming by the sword of Babylon. The idols of Egypt would be destroyed and the cities burned and laid waste. Her proud strength would come to an end (18). It would be God's punishment and they would know the LORD (19).

2. Broken or strengthened arms (20-26)

God broke Pharaoh's arm. But he didn't surrender. So God would break his other arm and scatter the Egyptians among the nations. At the same time, God would strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon to defeat Egypt, for that was God's will. It is futile to resist and fight against God's will and purposes. Ezekiel keeps repeating over and over, "Then they will know that I am the LORD." Do we live like we know this?

Prayer: Lord, may we live as ones who know you, destroying idols, forsaking our pride. For you alone are the Lord.

One Word: To know the LORD is to throw away idols and pride
