NABOTH'S VINEYARD

Passage: 1Kings 21:1~29

Key verse: 29

1. A wicked plan (1-16)

These verses give us a picture of what Ahab was really like. Naboth owned a vineyard close to the palace. Ahab wanted the vineyard and he offered Naboth a generous price for it. But this vineyard had been his family's for generations, so he refused to sell. Ahab sulked. He laid in bed and refused to eat. He was childish. When Jezebel asked him what was wrong, and he told her, Jezebel conspired to have Naboth stoned to death under false pretenses. Ahab got his vineyard.

2. Elijah confronts Ahab (17-29)

God sent Elijah to rebuke Ahab for his wicked deed. Because of his sin, disaster would come upon Ahab and his household. God would wipe out all of Ahab's descendants, and dogs would devour Jezebel. No one would be left of Ahab's family. Although Ahab hated Elijah, he listened to him and repented. And God relented from His anger. When even the worst of sinners repents, God forgives.

Prayer: Lord, you are God who punishes sin but who also forgives those who repent. Help us to repent.

One Word: God forgives repentant sinners
