A NEW HEART AND A NEW SPIRIT

Passage: Ezekiel 36:1~38

Key verse: 26

1. The sure hope of Israel's restoration (1-21)

God has great hope for Israel: God would restore their lands and their people, making them fruitful and numerous, restoring them for the sake of his holy name. This sure hope was realized in time at the return from exile, and points to the sure hope we have in a new heaven and earth.

2. "For the sake of my holy name" (22-38)

God's concern in this was for the holiness of his name, profaned by Israel's conduct. The root problem is sin in our heart and powerlessness in our spirit. God himself provided a way in the gospel: sprinkling of clean water to cleanse from all impurities and idols (Ro 3:25-26). He gives us a new heart and a new spirit, removing our rebellious heart of stone, corrupted by our sinful nature. He enables us to live a new life following God's word. He is our God; we are his people.

Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us the gospel for your name's sake. Give me a new heart and spirit today!

One Word: Glorify God's holy name
