THE EVERLASTING COVENANT OF PEACE

Passage: Ezekiel 37:1~28

Key verse: 26a

1. "Dry bones! Hear the word!" (1-14)

God took Ezekiel to a valley of dry bones and had him prophesy over them. When he obeyed, they became flesh, animated by the breath of God - a vast army. This demonstration revealed God's power. God's people were like dry bones, in the grave. They could not do anything, so God himself would raise them up by his power and Spirit. We were dead in our sins, but it is God who makes us alive in Christ through the gospel (Eph 2:1,4-5).

2. One nation under one shepherd (15-28)

God would unite the divided nation of Israel into one nation under one shepherd, King David. God established an everlasting covenant of peace. This promise is fulfilled in Jesus, our peace, who destroyed the barriers to make us one (Eph 2:14-15). We are made alive, saved from our sins, united into one kingdom to be God's people and dwell with him forever. This is possible because God, who is faithful to his covenant, will do it .

Prayer: Father, thank you for your covenant of peace. Help me trust you and put my hope in you.

One Word: Hear the word of the LORD
