THEY WILL KNOW I AM THE LORD THEIR GOD

Passage: Ezekiel 39:1~29

Key verse: 28

1. The LORD has spoken and will do it (1-8)

Repeating the prophecy, God would defeat Gog to make known his holy name to the nations. The LORD emphasizes his spoken word. Gog schemes, but it is the LORD's will that is accomplished.

2. What Israel should learn (9-29)

Using detailed allegory of Israel using weapons for fuel for 7 years, burying the dead for 7 months, and a great feast for the wild animals, what should God's people learn? Israel was in exile in Babylon at that moment. The future invasion and defeat of Gog seemed unrelated. They must learn that they were in exile for their sins. God was disciplining them through Babylon, and would fully restore them to their land and to their God. At Pentecost God poured out his Spirit on all who believe in Jesus. Gog represents Satan, who attacks God's church. But we need not fear; his defeat is assured.

Prayer: Father, thank you for being our God, and pouring out your Spirit so we may be your people.

One Word: The Lord is our God
