WILL THE TRUE KING PLEASE STAND UP?

Passage: 2Kings 15:1~16

Key verse: 12

1. King Azariah did right in God's eyes, somewhat (1-7)

Azariah (a.k.a. Uzziah) did right in the LORD's eyes. Well sort of. Like father, like son, happened again. Both father and son left high places for convenient worship (4; 14:4). The LORD afflicted King Azariah with leprosy (see 2Ch 26:16-20). He too became proud after becoming powerful. When will we learn to seek God in good times too?

2. A new king in Israel (8-16)

Zechariah (not the prophet), did evil in the LORD's eyes, like those before him. He was assassinated by a non-relative, Shallum, who became king. Even this fulfilled a prophecy to Jehu (see 2Ki 10:30). Yet this assassin was also assassinated after only one month as king. Menahem took the throne and started his reign of terror. It looks like evil people rule the world. But actually, it is the LORD who is fulfilling his own word and promises.

Prayer: Lord, it is not wicked or conniving people who rule. You reign over the nations. Have mercy on the nations. Your kingdom come. Your will be done.

One Word: The word of the LORD will be fulfilled
