THE SON OF MAN COMING WITH GREAT POWER AND GLORY, James Kim
KEEP WATCH, BE ON GUARD
Passage: Mark 13:28~37
Key verse: 31
28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[a] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation(A) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(B) 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(C)
The Day and Hour Unknown
32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.(D) 33 Be on guard! Be alert[b]!(E) You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants(F) in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”(G)

1. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words won't (28-31)
As people knew that summer was near through observing the fig tree, so Jesus explained about signs in advance that we may know that the end of the age is near. People will laugh saying, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Everything goes on as it is has since the creation!"(2 Pet 3:4) But as Jesus confirmed, heaven and earth will pass away, but Jesus' words will never pass away!"
2. Keep watch (32-37)
We should especially keep watch, be awakened for no one knows that day, not even the angel, nor the Son, but only the Father. People will either be paralyzed in panic or live a pleasure-seeking life saying, "Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die." (Isa 22:13) But we, his elects must live guarding our hearts with Jesus' peace, carrying out his Great Commission. We should remember Jesus' word: a master goes away leaving his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his assigned task till he would come back anytime. (Mt 24:45)
Prayer: Lord, heaven and earth may pass away but your word will never pass away. Help me to live in peace, carrying out your Great Commission faithfully.
One Word: Be a faithful servant who always does his assigned task
