JESUS TEMPTED BY THE DEVIL

Passage: Luke 4:1~13

Key verse: 12

1. "Man shall not live on bread alone" (1-4)

After Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit led him to face the devil in the wilderness. Jesus fasted forty days. The devil said, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." Jesus could've solved his urgent physical need. But he said, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone.'" Man is not just flesh, but also spirit. Jesus trusted God.

2. "Worship the Lord and serve him only" (5-8)

The devil then tempted Jesus with a deal: "Worship me, and I'll give you the authority and splendor of all kingdoms." Jesus said, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" Jesus made no deals with the devil.

3. "Do not put the Lord your God to the test" (9-13)

The devil tempted Jesus to jump from the temple because God's word says his angels would catch him. Jesus said, "It is said; 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" Jesus defeated the devil.

Prayer: Lord, you are greater than the evil one. Lead me not into temptation. Deliver me from evil.

One Word: The victory is in Jesus Christ our Lord
