NINEVEH IS IN RUINS - WHO WILL MOURN?

Passage: Nahum 3:1~19

Key verse: 7

1. "I will show the kingdoms your shame" (1-11)

Nineveh seemed powerful, but it was all lies, exposed finally by the conquering armies of Babylon. Compared with a deceptive harlot enslaving nations by prostitution and witchcraft, God exposes all their shame and weakness, with no one to comfort or mourn. As Thebes had been so powerful but destroyed by Assyria at the height of their power, now the tables have turned.

2. "Who has not felt your endless cruelty?" (12-19)

Nineveh is described as completely broken, like figs falling from a tree, massed armies and merchants deserting rather than coming to the city's aid. In fact, all who hear the news about the fall of Nineveh clap their hands, as all felt their cruelty. Instead of making enemies by pursuing wealth, control and power, let's obey Jesus, and invest in others (Lk 16:9). Those who trust God live in peace (Pr 16:7).

Prayer: Father, I do not trust wealth or power, but only you. Help me live as your remnant people.

One Word: Stay with the LORD Almighty
