THE POWER OF GOD'S PROMISE

Passage: Genesis 28:1~22

Key verse: 15b

1. Abraham's blessing (1-9).

The promises of God give us the power to live. Jacob received the promise of God through his father Isaac, and then directly from the Lord Himself. By now, Isaac had fully accepted God's choice of Jacob and blessed him, saying, "'May he [God] give you the blessing given to Abraham...'"

2. God's blessing (10-22).

Jacob was fearful of leaving his home. However, in a dream, Jacob saw a ladder that reached from the earth all the way into heaven, with angels ascending and descending upon it and the Lord Himself standing above it. It represented God's presence and provision wherever Jacob went. God promised, "'I will not leave you...'" Instead of rebuking Jacob, the Lord lifted him up by renewing his covenant with him personally. Jacob responded with wonder and fear and he worshipped the Lord.

Prayer: Father, help us to remember your promises.

One Word: 'I will not leave you...'
