SACRED ASSEMBLIES (Part 2)

Passage: Leviticus 23:23~44

Key verse: 23:40

First, Trumpets and Day of Atonement (23-32). These 3 festivals were in the 7th month. The Festival of Trumpets issued in the New Year (Rosh Hashanah) on the 1st day of the 7th month. The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) was the holiest day of the year (Ch.16). Two things were required of every person: deny yourselves (or fast) and do no work. Whoever violated either of these two requirements would be cut off from God's people. Second, Tabernacles (33-44). The sixth festival was called Tabernacles or Booths. This recalled living in temporary shelters when they left Egypt (43). This was a joyful festival with palm branches (40). These offerings to the Lord were in addition to their weekly Sabbath, vow and freewill offerings (38). All these appointed festivals were expressions of thanking and worshiping the Lord their God, their Deliverer, Redeemer and Provider.

Prayer: Lord, you are my Deliverer, Redeemer and Provider. May I give of myself, my time and my possessions to give you thanks and praise.

One Word: Worship God with joy and offerings
