LEVITES: SERVANTS IN THE LORD’S TEMPLE

Passage: 1_Chronicles 6:1~81

Key verse: 49

1. The Levites—temple servants (1-30)

This long chapter emphasizes the Levites—the priests and musicians in the Lord’s temple. Levi’s 3 sons were temple servants: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. From Kohath, God chose Aaron’s descendants (Moses’ brother) to be priests. In Aaron’s day, God delivered his people from slavery in Egypt and the tabernacle (tent of meeting) was mobile. The prophet Samuel is also listed (27).

2. Ministering in the Lord’s house (31-88)

David assigned Levites as musicians in the tabernacle, until Solomon built the temple (31-32,48). Aaron’s descendants were chosen as priests to make offerings to make atonement for the Lord’s people (49). Levites had no land since they served in the Lord’s temple. So they were given towns and pasturelands (64). Priests and Levites were chosen to serve primarily in the Lord’s house. All Christians are chosen priests (1Pe 2:9).

Prayer: Lord, may I live as one of your chosen priests today, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

One Word: Chosen and consecrated to serve God
