GOD WHO HAS BEEN MY SHEPHERD

Passage: Genesis 47:27~48:22

Key verse: 48:15

1. Carry me out of Egypt (47:27-48:4)

Jacob and the Israelites settled in Egypt, but Jacob was clear that Canaan was the land God had promised to Abraham's descendants. He confided in his trusted son Joseph and made him swear to bury him in the promised land. It was a matter of worship. Jacob never forgot the Lord’s call to him. He trusted completely in God’s promise.

2. God is my Shepherd (48:5-22)

Jacob's heart was full of thanksgiving, for God had allowed him to see Joseph again--and even to see Joseph's sons. He counted Joseph's sons as his own and blessed them to receive a son’s portion of blessing. He confessed God's work in his life. God was his Shepherd and deliverer all the days of his life. He prayed that God might also be the Shepherd of these two sons of Joseph.

Prayer: Lord, help me to walk as a good sheep, always trusting in your promise.

One Word: The Lord is my Shepherd
