THE LORD REIGNS FOREVER

Passage: Psalm 9:1~20

Key verse: 7a

1. He rules the world in righteousness (1-12)

David offers his wholehearted thanks to God, who sits enthroned as the judge, for overthrowing his enemies in righteous judgment. God vindicated David's just cause and routed his enemies completely. David looks forward to the Messiah's coming in which he will rule the world in righteousness. Additionally, the LORD is a refuge for the oppressed in times of trouble. Those who know God trust in him, for he never forsakes those who seek him.

2. God will never forget the needy (13-20)

Though David was persecuted by his enemies, he was sure that God's justice would prevail and that God punishes the wicked, letting them fall into their own traps. All the nations who forget God will perish, but God will never forget the needy, nor allow the hope of the afflicted to perish. David prayed, 'Arise, LORD, do not let mortals triumph.'

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your justice and mercy revealed in the cross of Jesus. May your kingdom come and your will be done!

One Word: God rules with justice and mercy
