THE LORD WHO HEALS

Passage: Matthew 8:5~17

Key verse: 8

1. The power of recognition (5-13)

The centurion was a Roman authority figure, but he saw Jesus, a controversial Jewish rabbi, as someone he could trust. He believed Jesus' words could heal his sick servant. The centurion did not discriminate based on race, class, or religion, but knew in his heart that Jesus was his Lord. The centurion knew from his own life experience how commands have power. He recognized Jesus as a spiritual general who could defeat evil and sickness. Jesus also recognized the Roman centurion as a great man of faith. How do you see Jesus and others?

2. He took up our infirmities (14-17)

Jesus went to Peter's house and healed his mother-in-law who had a fever. That evening, many continued to come to Jesus for healing. Jesus healed all who came to him. Jesus has power to heal us and make us truly whole from all our sicknesses and demons. Whether it is through scripture fulfilled or eyes of faith, Jesus is our Lord who heals.

Prayer: Lord, give me faith to see you beyond my own prejudices and be healed.

One Word: Jesus, the Lord heals
