THE LORD GAVE SKILL AND ABILITY

Passage: Exodus 35:30~36:38

Key verse: 36:1

God chose and empowered specific individuals with specific skills and abilities—including the ability to teach others—so that the people could make a sanctuary for his dwelling. But skill and ability weren’t enough. These workers needed supplies and support. The people all rose and provided more than was needed. Sometimes we are workers, sometimes supporters. What matters is our willing heart to use what God has given us for his glory.

Skill and ability are not to be used to compare with others or for our own honor. Rather, they are given by God to be put to work for his purposes and plans, together in unity with his people. These verses record the first stage of construction: Building the Tabernacle itself. Note the repetition of “they made/joined/set…” and how their expert skill and ability are highlighted. Let’s use what God has given to do the work he has commanded.

Prayer: Father, skill and ability come from you. Help me work with what you have given me.

One Word: Work or support willingly
