GOLD ARTIFACTS IN THE TABERNACLE

Passage: Exodus 37:1~29

Key verse: 6

Bezalel made the ark and its atonement cover to be placed behind the curtain in the Most Holy Place. These were the most important things in the tabernacle because the covenant between God and Israel was kept there. God, enthroned between the cherubim, would meet his people there (25:22; Ps 80:1). Once a year, the high priest would offer the blood of the covenant on the mercy seat (Heb 9:7). So, God and his people maintained their covenant relationship, and this relationship is at the heart of worship and God’s dwelling with his people.

The table, lamp, and altar of incense were also made by Bezalel and his team out of pure gold. They were used for the daily ministry of the priests. The table held the bread of the Presence, representing God’s providence. The lamp was to be kept burning all night, showing God’s faithfulness and our need for vigilance. Finally, the altar of incense represented prayer, offered daily for the people of the whole nation. So, too, we have our daily ministry to keep.

Prayer: Father, you have made a covenant with us in Jesus’ blood. Help us to come and worship you in your way and keep our covenant with you daily.

One Word: Come to God daily through Jesus
