WOE TO YOU…

Passage: Isaiah 5:8~30

Key verse: 12

Isaiah states the woes against God's people. The rich lived wicked lives. They included the privileged who expanded their properties to live more luxuriously and those who indulged in wine and spirits from morning until night. While they sought their own pleasures, they neglected the work of God. They did not punish wrongdoing and left the innocent without justice.

Such people are wise in their own eyes. They figure out how to get what they want and evade God's call to care for all humanity. In their craftiness, they even call what is good, evil, and what is evil, good. It is easier to defend one's own belief and politics than admit one's lack of understanding and love. God, with righteous zeal, will correct every wrong and crooked way—to the detriment of the proud and powerful people of the world.

Prayer: Lord, humble us and help us to admit our lack of understanding to care for those you care for and to seek your ways.

One Word: The Lord will be exalted by his justice.
