THE FEAR OF THE LORD ADDS LENGTH TO LIFE
Passage: Proverbs 10:19~32
Key verse: 27
19 Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.(A)
20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver,
but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
21 The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of sense.(B)
23 A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes,(F)
but a person of understanding delights in wisdom.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy,
but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.(P)
29 The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless,
but it is the ruin of those who do evil.(Q)
30 The righteous will never be uprooted,
but the wicked will not remain in the land.(R)

1. The wise delight in wisdom (19-26)
Solomon's contrast between wisdom and folly continues. Multiplying words can't end sin but the wise spares his words. The righteous nourishes many but the fool lacks sense. The wise delights in wisdom but the fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes. God grants the desire of the righteous but what the wicked dread will overtake them. The wicked will be cut off but the righteous will stand firm forever.
2. The way of the Lord is the refuge for the righteous (27-32)
The fear of the Lord gives one eternal life but the years of the wicked are cut short. The righteous have hope and joy but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. God's way is a refuge for the righteous but it is ruin for the wicked. The righteous will speak wisdom and will never be uprooted but the fool speaks only what is perverse and will not remain in the land.
Prayer: Lord, you are our refuge. Help me to fear God so that my lips may nourish others.
One Word: Fear God and be wise
