REGULAR OFFERING PLEASING TO THE LORD

Passage: Numbers 28:1~31

Key verse: 8

The new generation would have many things to do in the Promised Land, such as growing their crops and families, etc… God provided everything for them to possess and enjoy. It was important to structure their schedules with a focus on their relationship with God by regularly offering pleasing sacrifices. In this way they would maintain a thankful heart and not forget God in the busy daily life of living in the Promised Land.

Offerings at regular intervals would discipline people to include God in daily life. There were daily (morning and evening), monthly, new year (Passover) offerings and offerings related to harvests (Feast of Weeks). The content of each offering was specific and meaningful. Each animal was to be without defect and not leftovers.

These were communal times of coming to God in the form of festivals of celebration. Our time and schedule can easily be dominated by work and the world, rather than together with God’s people in faithful thanksgiving. Let’s newly engage in daily times of Bible reading and prayer, weekly Sunday worship, celebrating Easter as our Passover, and the Spirit’s coming at Pentecost. To do so will require intentionality and sacrifice.

Prayer: Father, thank you for blessing me. Help me to acknowledge you with my daily rhythms and yearly schedule, together with all your people.

One Word: Offer my life as a pleasing sacrifice.
