GOD AND HIS WORD ARE RIGHTEOUS AND ETERNAL

Passage: Psalm 119:137~160

Key verse: 137

(137-144) God, just like his word, is righteous, faithful, trustworthy, everlasting, and true. Right or righteous is repeated 5 times here (also in 160). God’s enemies ignored him and his word, but he found delight in both God and his word.

(145-152) The psalmist calls and cries out to the LORD in the early dawn and in the watches of the night. He cries for help to be saved from wicked schemers who are nearby. But the LORD is also near (151). God’s covenant love (149) and his statutes (also known as testified will) are eternal (152).

(153-160) The psalmist prays: “Deliver me…defend my cause…redeem me…preserve my life.” Since the foes are faithless, they attack him and persecute him for his faith (158). In response, the psalmist calls upon the LORD’s great compassion and love (156,159). He trusts in God’s true, eternal word (160).

Prayer: LORD, you are righteous and faithful, and your promises are true and trustworthy. I cry out to you in my trouble and distress. Deliver me and redeem me for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

One Word: God is righteous and trustworthy
