THE LORD HELPED US ESCAPE

Passage: Psalm 124:1~8

Key verse: 7

Can you remember a “close call” you’ve had, when you definitely would have been lost if the Lord hadn’t helped? The Psalmist is remembering such a time for Israel, when they were attacked by fierce enemies bent on their destruction (2-3). But the Lord was on their side and they escaped like a bird from a snare (7).

Remembering such times in our lives is a way to humbly acknowledge our dependency on God. We cannot save ourselves by our own strength. Most of all, Jesus broke the snare of our sin on the cross, and we have escaped sin’s condemnation. Let’s remember that if God had not helped us, we would not be here today, and let’s acknowledge the Lord as our help.

Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus who set me free from the trap of my sins. I will rely on you as my helper and not be afraid when troubles seem to flood my life.

One Word: With God’s help I escaped!
