LOVE AND OBEY THE LORD

Passage: Deuteronomy 11:1~32

Key verse: 1

Moses commanded the people to love God and to obey Him. They had seen God’s mighty hand in Egypt and in the wilderness. Thus, remembering what God had done in history they should carefully observe His commands in the new land. The land they were entering was not like Egypt where the water source was the Nile, but a land of mountains and valleys which needed rain from heaven. God’s eyes would be continually on the land. God promised to send the rain to irrigate the land, and to protect them from their enemies if they would love God and obey His command and teach their children. But if they were to turn from God and worship idols, He would not send the rain and they would perish. It was their choice: obey God and live in God’s blessing, or turn from God and perish.

There are two choices we make in life: to choose God or to choose the godless world. But as God blessed Adam in the Garden of Eden, true blessings come only from God. A curse is the absence of God and of His words. When we love God and observe His words, He blesses us by shepherding us, restoring us, and bringing us into His eternal kingdom he has promised. Our choices have consequences: blessings or curses.

Prayer: Lord, you want to be with your people and bless them. Help us choose to love you by obeying your words today.

One Word: Choose God today
