A NEW SONG TO MY GOD

Passage: Psalm 144:1~15

Key verse: 9

David praises God for training him for war (1). God’s leading on our life also trains us for spiritual battle. We can be confident that he will equip us for everything we will face when we put on the attitude of a good soldier of Jesus. David visualizes God defeating his enemies with his power like lightning and arrows (5-6). However, David also understands that human life in the body is short and frail, which makes God’s love and care for us all the more wonderful to contemplate (3-4).

David also meditates on a coming time of the outpouring of God’s blessing according to his promise (12-14). All of God’s people can have this hope (15).

When David considers all God’s goodness, he wants to sing a new song to God (9); it is because he meditates on God’s grace very personally. We can have a new song in our hearts as we apply our knowledge of God’s goodness to our specific life situation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for training me for spiritual battle. I want to meditate on all the ways you help me, until a new song enters my heart.

One Word: God fills my heart with music.
