A PEOPLE HOLY TO THE LORD

Passage: Deuteronomy 7:1~26

Key verse: 25

1. To be God's treasured possession (1-10)

God chose the people of Israel to display his glory. He called them to drive out stronger nations to show that he is God. He instructed his people to totally destroy every bit of idolatry in the land and to remain separate, so that they would not compromise their holiness as God's own with idolatry. The Lord called them to be his treasured possession, not because they were better than other nations, but out of his great love and faithfulness. As long as they obeyed, they would be bound to the Lord's in a covenant of love

2. Obey God's word (11-26)

God also called his people to join him in hating idolatry and sin. He commanded them to be clear, and to destroy the peoples and their gods completely. They were to obey God and depend on him in doing so. They were a people holy to the Lord. (6) The Lord meant to protect his chosen people from being ensnared by the things of this world. His holy people must hate sin, not compromise with it.

Prayer: Lord, you called me to be holy. Help me to live as a person set apart for the Lord.

One Word: Live in holiness
