THE LORD DISCIPLINES AND COMFORTS

Passage: Psalm 94:1~23

Key verse: 12

1. Arise, O Judge of the earth (1-15)

When evil and injustice seem to crush God's people and evil men proudly flaunt their evil deeds, what can God's servant do? He can pray. For, contrary to the ideas of godless men, God who made the ear hears; God who formed the eye sees. He disciplines men and nations to teach them his laws. Blessed is the one whom God disciplines and teaches his word.

2. When anxiety was great within me (16-23)

The world seems to be totally in the control of wicked men. God's people are few in number and helpless to defend themselves. But the Psalmist discovered that though he was helpless, God is not. He found help when he turned to God. When his foot slipped, God's love supported him; when anxiety filled his heart, God's consolation brought him joy. He confessed, 'God is my fortress and the rock in whom I take refuge. God will repay the wicked for their sins.'

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your unfailing love; discipline me in love according to your word and support me when my foot slips.

One Word: The Lord's love supports me
